The bathroom is a great place to begin spicing up or remodeling. In fact, many homeowners can remodel without ever hiring a designer. All it takes is imagination and the determination to see your bathroom the way you have always envisioned it.

Let’s say you like a beach themed bathroom. The first thing to do is paint the walls an ocean blue or sea foam green color. If you want, the top portion of the walls can be ocean blue and the bottom portion can be sea foam green. Then, where the two colors meet, add an armchair railing.

That always finishes the look at makes the room look more beachy. Now, add paintings or pictures that are beach related with matching towels, accessories and possibly a solid colored shower curtain.

If the shower curtain is solid, the bathroom accessories have more of a chance to be changed out more often. Other colors like light tan or brown can be added to the bathroom too. These colors are found in nature so why not incorporate them.

The bedroom is another great room to spice up or remodel. The bedroom should be a retreat from the everyday. This is especially true if you had a long day at work or just want to get away from all the stress. If you like a spa feeling, that can be incorporated by painting the walls a pastel blue or purple. These colors always bring peace and comfort. Now, when adding window coverings, add a puffy cream colored valance window treatment with a matching cream colored roller shade. All these colors bring comfort and peace.

Now, add accessories like a water fountain, bamboo plant, candles and statuettes.

Decorating any room is all in the eye of the beholder. Any room in your home can be spiced up or remodeled at little or minimal cost to you, the homeowner. This is true especially with home decor items made to look like the real thing.

When many people hear of gothic home decor they picture someone that only dresses in black and wears black lipstick. The reality of the matter is that many people are interested in this decorating style and most of them look just everyone else.

Many times, gothic home decor is used in one room of the house rather than the entire house. The basement, family room, and bedrooms are popular for this style of decorating. You don’t have to consider yourself gothic to enjoy this type of home decorating.

When planning your goth room you will probably want to address the walls before anything else. One option for the walls would be to get some plastic or vinyl imitation stone siding that people put on the exterior walls of the homes and line your interior room with it. Some of these materials look very real. Another option would be to paint the walls. Black, really, makes the room seem confined so if you don’t want that, try a darker red, navy, or silver. These colors will work well with your furnishings, also.

Your furniture and flooring allow you to use your imagination again. Wood is a safe route to go with for both flooring and furniture. A hardwood floor works well and wooden furniture can be left as is or painted. Black paint on wood furniture will match any gothic decorating.

There is a wide variety of accessories that you can choose from to complete your room. Older paintings of houses or people can be found in pawn shops or on garage sales. Candles are a nice addition. Flooring

You can put color on your flooring in two different ways. The first way is place your main color on your floor using area rugs. You can place blue rugs or red rugs down for that. If you want your floors to accent your look in the room then you can use white rugs or brown rugs instead.

Walls

You can complete your wall decor by hanging pictures correctly on the wall. You need to find a way to center your focal point and learn to highlight the rest.

The way you hang your pictures can offset the entire room. Sometimes the more you use the more cluttered and small the room may feel. You may want to try a simple arrangement with one large artwork on the main wall and balance the rest of the walls with smaller artwork.

Lighting

It’s important that you have enough lighting in your room. To complete the look you need to add some table lamps to each side of the sofa. You need to be able to control the lighting and table lamps will give you that option.

Accessorize

No room is complete until you learn to accessorize the room. In order to do that you need to add floral arrangements, window treatments, and small items that have the colors that you are using in that room.
